Sayonara for the Summer

It's not officially summer, but it IS officially hot around here. And that means that my little studio apartment becomes like a sauna during the day while I am away at work and the A/C is off.

That said, I'm noticing that the bouquets from my One-Bouquet-a-Week Challenge are wilting quickly from the heat--and although I love having them around, it's costing a pretty penny to keep them in the house. So, as of this week, I've decided to put my challenge on hiatus until cooler weather returns to the N-Y-C.

These pics are some of my favorites from the challenge, which I started back in January of this year. It's been a blast, but I'm definitely going to enjoy spending more time outside and finding the blooms around me in the neighborhood.

So happy weekend, ya'll! Hope it's filled with flowers and greenery and lots of time spent outdoors in the sunshine. See you on Monday...

Emily Dickinson’s Garden. In the Bronx.

On Memorial Day, I hiked up to the Boogie Down Bronx to see "Emily Dickinson's Garden: The Poetry of Flowers," an exhibit that's currently showing at the New York Botanical Garden. It's a recreation (I love a recreation!) of the garden from Emily's Victorian Homestead--a beautiful little world of lilacs, hydrangea, and daisies (no wonder she never left the house...).

If you're in the city, get your geek on and hop up there. It's on through June 14. And for those of you who can't make it, here's a few snapshots of my trek:

Brooklyn by the Numbers

I attended a very lovely wedding over the weekend for my very lovely friends (and neighbors) Lucia and Matt. The wedding was held in downtown Manhattan, but since the couple is living in Brooklyn, they wanted to make sure that elements of their favorite borough were incorporated into the celebration.

For their reception, they asked me to take photos of numbers around our neighborhood to act as place cards for the dinner tables (so flattering...). Here's just a selection of some of my favorites, in no particular order. (Although, they are in reverse numerical order, so I guess that is particular.) (Whatever! Math is hard. Just enjoy.)

Congrats, L + M!
