Random Acts of Lovely Things

Ever since I've started blogging, several people have said to me, "Oh! I've really wanted to start a blog, but I don't know how/have time/know what to write about/and all that jazzy-jazz. But folks, here's one reason why you should start blogging: because there are people like Vicki Sleet from iwantthat in the blog world. And if you are lucky, Vicki will surprise you with a Random Act of Lovely Things package in your mailbox.

A few weeks ago, I got the above lovely stuff--a sweet ribbon, stamps from South Africa (she knows I collect them), a tiny felt lion magnet, a notebook, an adorable pin, and a cheery note from Vicki herself--delivered to me at home. And I absolutely could not stop smiling about it (still can't, really).

What a beautiful, unexpected benefit to all this blogging. Thank you so very much, lovely Vicki. And I promise to pass the random act on to someone else. Get your mailboxes ready, friends!

Where to Buy: Paintings by Jennifer Sidel

After writing about art director Jennifer Sidel's apartment yesterday, I received a few inquiries about the paintings on her walls (aren't they amazing?). Well, they're Jenn's own handiwork--and the good news is that

many of her pieces (which have already been exhibited in a few shows) are for sale. Click here to check out more of her work online and see below for more detailed pics. [I am personally gunning for one of the more pink pieces...I have ALWAYS loved her work.] Prices start at $200. And be sure to tell her I sent you!

Uptown Awesomeness

I am starting to think that all the amazing graphic designers I've worked with over the years are all secretly interior designers, too. Another case in point: the gorgeously unique Upper East Side apartment of my former co-worker, art director Jennifer Sidel (who currently works on People Stylewatch magazine).

Lovely Jenn--always a generous hostess--invited me up to her new place recently for a homemade brunch of French toast and fruit (deLISH). And since I had seen her previous pad, I knew that it would be smart if I also invited my big camera along for the ride.

Jennifer's decor is a fun, sexy, eclectic mix of her own original art (the designers I know all often hang their own art, which I love), flea-market finds (she's got the perfect eye), and inspiration from a recent trip to Bali. Check it:

(I love this lamp--she got it for a steal at a flea market in Florida.)

Jennifer also converted a walk-in closet into her home office (I dig a smart small space!). Its wall is filled with photos of friends and family, original art, and my favorite: framed letters and postcards from loved ones.

Thanks, Jenn! xo

On Set with Prop Stylist Randi Brookman Harris

It's not often that my job requires me to be on site at a photo shoot, but last week, I ended up at one styled by former Martha Stewart staffer Randi Brookman Harris.

Early in the morning before anything got started, I got the nerve up to ask Randi if I could take a few photos while she was setting out her props. And she was kind (and patient) enough to this let this random writer take non-professional photos at a very professional photo shoot of her very pretty stuff. Thank God I didn't get any drool on anything, because I am pretty sure I was goin' to town.
