Architectural Digest Home Design Show 2010

Design by 2Michaels

I try to hit the Architectural Digest Home Show each year, and this time I am happy to report that I won tickets for the 2010 show from ABCDDesigns (thanks, Amy!).

This year, I was particularly inspired by the "Dining By Design" show from DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids, which ran concurrently with the AD Home Design Show (they were in the same venue, and admission was included with each ticket). Dining by Design is currently taking a multi-city tour to raise money for AIDS, and it features dining installations by well-known designers.

Here are a few pics from my Sunday trek to Pier 94 in Manhattan with some girlfriends to check out the scene (or the "setting," I guess I should say, no?).

I really liked the surprise of this flickering iPod "candelabra" by David Stark for Benjamin Moore--so smart.

(P.S. We loved this clear plastic version of the Chiavari Bamboo Ballroom Chair, also featured in the Student Design Initiative. Go up-and-comers, go!)

Flowering

So (if I may say so) I'm kind of proud of this week's installment of my One-Bouquet-a-Week Challenge. You like? I was inspired by a few arrangements I've been noticing in flower shops around the city that separate parts of their bouquets out by blocks of color or by type of bloom.

What really did it for me with this bunch, though, was the inclusion of button mums. At the last minute, I grouped them together at the base of the bouquet, which I think added some extra personality. And bonus: I had so many left over that they filled up all my bud vases, and are currently cheering up corners of my living space, my bathroom, and the area next to my bed.

(Confession: I believe this challenge is starting to show me that I have a soft spot for button mums. They're so cute n' simple n' perky. And as far as I'm concerned, they can fill my bud vases anytime.)

Have a great weekend, friends. See you on Monday!

Greenhouse Eco-Friendly Living

I'm pretty sure that Greenhouse Eco-Friendly Living in Brooklyn's Boerum Hill neighborhood is out to prove that you can be planet-friendly and still be plenty chic. The home furnishings and accessories store is

filled with beautiful wood pieces, glassware, tabletop items, bath products, and yummy linens that I could have piled high in my arms and lugged straight home.

It's gorgeous stuff.  And I love that it's a little local store with a big mission to save the world.
