That's at Leah's apartment, actually (she commented below--hoping she'll see this and come back and tell us!). It wasn't fruit; but it is some sort of something from a tree, methinks.
To be honest, I have no idea what those things are ... some sort of potpourri-type thingies I liked at Pottery Barn several years back. Don't see them or anything similar on their website currently unfortunately.
