Love in the Afternoon

I really like the tradition of a wedding shower: the coming together of close friends to shower a bride with a little love and a lot of fun items for her new home.

Also, I really like the food.

Yesterday, I helped celebrate my more-amazing-than-she-knows friend (and neighbor) Lucia, whose wedding to the dashing Matt is at the end of May. The shower was thrown by her matron of honor at Lady Mendl's Tea Salon in Gramercy Park. We had a memorable five-course afternoon tea (a nod to the fact that the groom is a proud Englishman) that included finger sandwiches, cake, cookies, and fresh scones (which I happily drowned in jam and clotted cream--be still my heart!). (Except, please don't--I know cream wasn't great for it, but I really would like to keep it going so I can taste the delicious awesomeness they're going to whip up for the wedding.) (Cheers.)

Wow! What a place to have a bridal shower. Your friend is very lucky! I went there for tea one time with my friend Rawson and we loved it!

I love high tea! I threw my friend Jenny a surprise afternoon tea bridal shower two years ago at the Four Seasons. It looks very much like this. Great photos! :)
