Can you say “ranunculus”?
I cannot. I couldn't even spell it again after today if I tried. I can, however, try to learn how to arrange them. That's why they're this week's installment of my One-Bouquet-a-Week Challenge.
Rifling through the shelves above my refrigerator recently, I can upon this old milk bottle I have from a creamery in High Point, NC (score!). All week, I was determined to find the perfect flowers to go in it, and I think I did it with this bunch of ranunculus (R-A-N-U-N-C-U-L-U-S. Ranunculus). I love its delicate purple-ly pink detail and its slender stems. I also love the raised lettering on the bottle; I tried to capture it with my camera, but I definitely didn't do it justice.
Also in this batch, I just HAD to include a stunning orchid (we all think it's an orchid, but after hitting the flower stand this week, I am not so sure. Do you guys know?) that my always-generous co-worker Cynthia gave me this week (thank you, friend!). It's one of those flowers that stops people who walk by my office and makes them ask what it is and where she bought it (in Rockefeller Center, methinks).
It's a week full of flowers! Is there anything better?

My FAVOURITE flowers ever!! When i was little my dad would plant an entire bed of ranuncula bulbs outside of my window - come the spring, the view outside was punctuated with splashes of purple, fuschia and the prettiest pinks! Thank you for a lovely reminder of my Dad.
pretty! i am almost certain the other is an orchid - can't find the variety though...
Ranunculus are one of my favorite flowers and I love the way you've arranged them. I never that creative with my flower vessels and I usually just end up sticking them in that one vase I have the probably came from ProFlowers.com
Your other flowers are dendrobium orchids, there are a lot of varieties so I can't really get more specific than that. That variety might be called "Hawaii"
Ranunculus are my favorites! I had them in my wedding bouquet and bridesmaid bouquets. Like mini peonies, no?
The green/wine-colored orchid is called a Cymbidium orchid. Very lovely!
I knew someone out there would know. Thanks, Katie! (-:
Aw, Vicki. Now every time I see them, I'll think of your dad, too! Sounds like a lovely way to wake up when you're little (or when you're big, for that matter).
Oh! Thank you, Michelle!
I hear you on the vase situation...I am trying to get better! I am looking for new ways to bottle them up...kind of fun...
They're all so pretty! I am not an expert- I hardly ever even buy real flowers as I am SO bad at taking care of them, but thsoe ranunculus are beautiful, as is the 'orchid'!
Wow! great pictures - really stunning...
A lovely orchid....may have even been in your bouquet at your brother's wedding ;)
Great pics...sure you don't want to do freelance photography???
So pretty! I love the idea behind this challenge and seeing what you come up with every week.
I can definitely say ranunculus. They're my favourite flowers! That's a beautiful arrangement.
Thanks, Hilary! It was fun to put together.
