It’s a sign
I'd say that, if someone somewhere decided to do research on my shopping habits, they'd come up with a statistic that states something like: "Amy is 86% more likely to enter and make a purchase in a venue that displays its name on an old-timey-but-very-modern wooden sign above its storefront."
And that's probably why it's a bad idea for someone like me to live in my neck of the woods. Check out some of the Brooklyn stores, restaurants, and bars trying to tempt my wallet and me on a daily basis. Then follow me inside and slap that credit card out of my hand, for chrissakes.

Amy, dear god, these signs are a huge problem. I know. They say: I'm steeped in history, but bold and unique. . .just like you," don't they? And, c'est vrai, we always want to buy more of ourselves!
I wouldn't be able to help myself from those signs either! Step away from the old-timey and charming signs...slowly. Then run! That would be my solution!
