Hello, Well Appointed House

Hey, hey! I am happy to report that Melissa Hawks over at the Well Appointed House blog just interviewed me for her latest post (thanks, my lovely friend). Check it out here, then be sure to browse Melissa's amazing online store...

And P.S. I am still Herman Miller-ing on the regular. Some of my latest "Playlist" series have included interviews with Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge, Lulu Powers, Victoria Smith of SF Girl by Bay, and Sarah Ryhanen of Saipua flowers. I also create a new product roundup every week (here's the most recent), so ya'll come on over and say hello when you can.

Summah-summah-summahtime

I've featured stuff by Gold Teeth Brooklyn several times now, but I've been waiting until the first day of summer to talk about these simple-but-somehow-sassy prints and cards. Almost everything they do makes me smile--there's such a elementary-school-art-show element to their work, but they manage to pull it off and make it all seem very fresh and very cool.

(P.S. I am currently trying to restrain myself from buying their Paper Series Print to go in my office. There's just something I dig about having a framed paper print of paper hanging in the workspace of a writer.)

Images from Gold Teeth Brooklyn found here and here.

The Art Director/Copywriter Game

Wanted to share a little photo project I've been working on. It is (as it often is) inspired by my friend Jorge, a creative director and graphic designer. [Jorge, man, how many posts are you responsible for at this point? Yeesh! Don't start charging me...]

When Jorge and I worked together at People en Español magazine (among others), he had a set of old wooden letterpress letters sitting on his bookshelf that spelled out the word "create." And every week, we (meaning I) played what we dubbed the "Art Director/Copywriter Game," where I'd come in and move his arty little letters around in order to change them into a new word.

Friends: did you know that you can create at LEAST 30 words out of the letters C-R-E-A-T-E?* And if you're counting (because I know you are), that's around 7 months and some change that this lady could come in once a week and totally bug her neat-freak co-worker. And that is awesome.

In honor of the game, I bought some funky-cool letters a few years back from Zipper Gifts and placed them in my home. And for the past few months, I've been trying to turn them into a photography project. I am not totally happy with the pics so far, but I think I need to post them in order to either inspire me to amp it up or realize that they're fine and deal with it. Here are the results...
